Volcano National Park

This week we went on our first island hopping adventure to the Big Island. Rob had been there a few times for pre-deployment training but it was a first for Ava and I. We had a great trip, we explored Volcano National Park, went to the southern most point of the country, and soaked up some sun on the cloudless Kona Coast of the island.

Before we went off on the hike we walked through the Lava Tubes.

The hike started out in jungle like terrain before there was nothing but lava rock on the crater floor.

This is looking down to the lava we were walking across. The center of the crater was over a mile across.

Ava got out of the pack and walked the last quarter mile. She was happy to be free after being in there for so long.
