Our first day of home school was pretty successful! Jake woke up first and came down eager to learn (or eager to get it over with so he could login and play video games with his friends). All the kids have a very manageable amount of work, he has 20 min of reading with comprehension after, about 30 min of science, 30 min of math and 20 min of writing. The teachers post every morning and are online in google classroom. It has been helping keep the kids connected with their friends too, teachers have created google hangouts for them.
Reagan's work is mostly offline, a lot of work books came home and we work on her sight words and reading. She has math and science activities as well. Jake and Reagan need the most assistance with their work, Ava and Lilli are able to do their work and upload documents through google classroom.

On day 2, Reagan's teacher set up a Zoom meeting. She was so happy to see the faces of her friends. It was hat day today so each kid had a turn to say where they got their hat and why they like it. Then her teacher explained the work that was assigned for the day. Lilli had a Zoom meeting too, her teacher let the kids all talk and joke around with each other, everyone that had a dog or pet showed their pet and Louie was happy to jump on her lap and join in the fun. Her teacher taught her math lesson before dismissing them for the day to go their work.
I saw on the National news that VP Pence said NH was really taking the lead of all states in setting up online learning for students. The community has really come together in getting kids who don't have devices get what they need, and Comcast is providing free service for those in need as well. Schools are still giving out food daily and guidance counselors are delivering food to families they know can't get to the school and are in need. It's amazing how much the community has rallied together and SO quickly. Last Monday they had no idea what was going to happen and were hopeful this would be short term, and a week later all the kids are online. We got some unsettling news this morning unfortunately though, the National Guard will be setting up Nashua High school South as a temporary hospital, they started working on this today. Yesterday I had a more hopeful outlook for the kids going back to school but today not so much.
Our neighborhood friends son (Jake's best friends family) turned 11 today. He was so disappointed he couldn't have his planned sleepover last weekend so we tried to cheer him up. Reagan had a "welcome home" balloon so they reused it and decorated with the Nashua Nighthawks logo, to make a happy birthday balloon. They made him a card too and we went over and social distance sang Happy Birthday!
Sadly it snowed yesterday, I was all set with snow, ready for Spring but here we are, that's how Spring in NH goes. It gave the kids something to do at least. When it just started snowing the kids had been outside playing a game called "Survival Family". Sounds a little bit too much like real life!
It was very pretty at least!
I took this before I went to bed, I love how quiet and bright it is at night when it's snowing!
Jake playing in the snow!

It is amazing how kids deal with things. I am sure this will help them cope. Sometimes I think the innocent mind does better than adults.
